Don’t these look just like Mabel’s earrings!?! As Oliver Putnam might say- 'Vintage, vermeil, verrrrry nice!!’ If you don’t watch “Only Murders in the Building,” well then … never mind.
Vermeil is a French word meaning “gilded.” In jewelry, vermeil means a layer of gold plate over sterling silver. These hoops could be your new every day, go-to pair. They are substantial looking, but are actually lightweight enough to wear all the time. I think these are vintage from the 90s.
Get a big gold look without the solid gold price tag. A chic, cool-girl hoop!
Stamped .925 for sterling silver and Italy
Approximately 5mm wide and 3/4 inch in diameter
4.50 grams- hollow, but not flimsy!
Vermeil is a great option for people with sensitive ears because of the sterling silver core. In general, the requirement for vermeil is a 2.5 micron thick layer of at least 10K gold over sterling silver (this is a lot thicker than gold plated jewelry, which is also usually has a brass or copper base).
