About
Hi from Kyla, aka the Pearl Scout 🤍
I grew up in Colorado, and graduated college with a BFA in ceramics and painting. Afterward, I spent many years working on Pearl Street in downtown Boulder - it helped shape me in numerous ways, and 'Pearl' is a nod to that.
My great-grandmother’s name was also Pearl! Her daughter, my grandmother Fanny Gray, gave me my first real gem: a white pearl (!) in a tiny black jar that held fancy eye cream. The pearl was nestled in a bit of cotton that still smelled like eye cream, and I thought it the most glamorous treasure. I kept the jar in a little box under my bed and would open it just to roll the pearl around in my hand (I have always been a magpie, and continue to hoard gemstones in jars to this day). I was a Girl Scout for many years, and for two summers in college I worked as a counselor at a Girl Scout camp. My camp name was 'Scout,' an extension of my independent, outdoorsy, youthful self - qualities I hope I always have!
I graduated from the Gemological Institute of America with my Graduate Gemologist degree in October 2023. I live outside Denver, CO, with my husband, my step-daughter and our three rescue dogs. I love gems and minerals, reading, antique malls, growing things, being outside in the sunshine, and of course, scouting and hunting for vintage jewelry.
Thank you for being here. I hope you find something you love and wear for a long, long time.
