Ok these are pretty special - vintage silver and turquoise drop earrings with the coolest shape!
This is a very intriguing pair of statement earrings by Jim Harrison. They were originally made as clip-ons and designed to be worn with the flat edge against the earlobe. When I found them, the clip on the back had been removed but the hinge from that component remained, and a very junky pair of metal ear wires were threaded through the hinge. Of course this is not exactly how the artist originally meant for them to look, but I really do applaud whoever came up with that fairly ingenious alteration to convert them to a pierced earring. I removed the earwires, added a jump ring and a sturdier pair of sterling wires with a snap back. I genuinely love the arch shape that these earrings have and the fact that they now dangle down a little lower than the ear lobe makes that shape more obvious.
My intermediate level repair skills aside- let's talk about the stones!!!! Super cool and graphic turquoise slabs with black veining are inlayed into the silver frame. Each slab is divided by a dark line down the middle of the arch. The line is dotted with two silver circles inlaid into the stone.
The more you look at them, the black veining in the turquoise starts to look like butterfly wings under magnification if you look intently enough... the arches start to become a magical door way, a portal to the desert southwest! If you've been to Meow Wolf in Santa Fe, you feel me.
Earrings measure 1 ¾ inches long and approximately 1 inch wide
Stamped “Sterling” and signed Jim Harrison
Vintage, circa 1990s
Very good vintage condition- these were originally clip-ons
