Navajo pearls are deceptively simple looking but are actually quite special because of the amount of hand work and labor that goes into a strand.
Each individual bead starts out as 2 sterling silver disc shapes, which are then shaped, stamped by hand and soldered together- each bead!!! No small feat! This strand is composed of 42 pearls, each one stamped on the top & underside with a sunrise or floral spray shape. This design is lovely and understated, creating a natural, organic pattern throughout the strand.
Each bead is a little orb, measuring approximately 10mm wide and 8mm long. They are not graduated which makes for a bold and graphic look on the neckline. The beads are strung on simple silver chain, finished with a U shaped hook and eye closure. Simple, classic and cool - but when you know the work that goes into them, the necklace is also a testament to the imperfect beauty of handmade objects.
Vintage, very good condition
16.5 inches long
The cone shaped end pieces are stamped STERLING
Total weight of the strand is 37.85 grams
