Monet is an American fashion jewelry company that originally started out in Brooklyn, NY in the 1920s, under the name Monocraft. Over the years they evolved, became Monet, teamed up with major design houses like Yves St Laurent and had a former designer from Cartier on their payroll. Pretty legit!
This gold tone collar has a high polish, and radiates with a golden, very rich look. It is flexible and moves with you, making for a slinky, stare-worthy statement piece! A big bold look, but very easy to wear- it could be dressed up or down, and looks great layered with other necklaces.
I believe that there is a place for vintage costume pieces in every jewelry collector's cache. Mass produced, fast fashion jewelry made today can’t hold a candle to the quality of design and materials seen in costume jewelry of the past. In general, costume pieces aren’t for every day because the materials used are not going to wear the way precious metals will. However, it is said that Monet's pieces are triple plated, meaning that golden finish is more substantial and will last a lot longer. As the saying goes, they don’t make them like they used to!
