There is something charmingly wonky and heart warming about this one. An antique heart shaped pendant carved in glossy jet with a textured, subtly sparkling pyrite at its center. Jet is an organic gemstone that is formed from fossilized wood and was highly popular during the Victorian era when mourning attire (including all black jewelry) was all the rage. Jet is related to coal! I do not want to bring up how someone who was a bit of a grinch this year deserves coal in their stocking this holiday, but maybe you can make it a hilarious anecdote?! The round pyrite center shows that they really do have a heart of gold... maybe?
Gold fill wire wraps around the pendant, bail is also gold fill
Pendant measures just under 1 inch long, including the bail.
Fair to Good antique condition, there is one small chip on the point of the heart on the front of the pendant and 2 chips on the back side. The chip on the front is not obvious when wearing. Not too shabby for being over 125 years old.
Victorian era, circa 1890
