These very cool vintage cufflinks were made in Taxco, Mexico. The Mayan calendar is featured in 14K yellow gold and gleams with tons of texture and visual interest.

I did a little reading and was fascinated of course by the ancient history represented here, but also by the mathematics, astronomy and spirituality that all come together in the calendar. Most historians think that most likely August 11, 3114 BCE was the base date used by the Maya for the start of the “Long Count” and the first “Great Cycle,” a period of 5,125 years that ended on December 21, 2012 CE. (I fear to ask what cycle we are in now).

The calendar is still used today, it is a complex system that integrates rich symbolism, reflecting the Maya civilization's deep connection to their religious beliefs, astronomical knowledge, and cultural practices. If you have any affinity towards the zodiac, any of the above mentioned categories, or ancient Mesoamerican history, I think these could make an excellent signature piece!
