How sweet is this vintage locket?? I love the two twin flowers, the hand sewn look of the engraving, with the squiggly line down the center of the heart and the quilt-like look of the diamond shape at the center. It is just slightly oversized, and definitely has a sweet presence and previously cherished feel to it.
The locket has plenty of room inside for a little scrap of fabric, a small note, a dried flower or lock of hair - but of course one or two photos would be a perfect addition.
The two featured flowers each have five petals, they could be pansies. Pansies represent remembrance, fond memories or nostalgia. In the Victorian era- an era fraught with romantic symbolism- a pansy symbolized “I’m thinking of you” because ‘pansy’ is derived from the French word pensée ("thought").
Does this locket represent two lovers who can’t be together?? The line down the middle could represent a divide of some kind… we could get terribly fraught about this if we want to do a deep dive into the history of flowers and their symbolism!!
If you don’t want to be over the top romantic about it, you could see the flowers’ symmetrical appearance as a symbol of balance and order. A calm love! This would make a really great gift for a romantic, a lover, a gardener or any flower aficionado!
