A unique, antique sterling pendant from the Art Nouveau era combined with a slightly rock and roll chain makes for a necklace worthy of Stevie Nicks... or someone with a witchy but earthy, Practical Magic kind of a vibe!
Swooping, swirling lines and earthy, organic, natural designs were the signature style of the Nouveau period, a direct and soft opposition to the rise of the industrial era. I really like that the shape of the pendant is sort of circular, but in a chill, flowy way.
The pendant features a young maiden with a flower behind her ear. Her long, wavy hair blends right into the edge of the pendant and becomes the swooping frame of the piece. The soft feels continue with a vine and a small flower that she seems to be smelling... The pendant hangs from an elongated oval shaped bail that continues with the organic feel with a slightly branch-like look.
The chain is what might be called a "mini biker" or elongated cable chain. I thought the juxtaposition between the soft, organic shape of the pendant and the polished edginess of the chain was a cool contrast. You know the motto around here - "Vintage Jewels for Modern Times!"
