A humdinger of a ring in sterling silver with a yellow jasper cabochon.
What is jasper, you ask? Well it is basically the same thing as agate, in that it is a microcrystalline quartz, but if the stone is opaque, it's called jasper. This particular stone is a very pretty orangey-yellow with splotches of red and darker maroon stripes- warm colors with a yummy, nutty brown undertone.
The setting is uniquely carved with a shadowbox around the stone. This is an intentional use of negative space created between the bezel of the stone and the face of the ring, creating a dark ring around the stone and providing a lot of contrast. This very graphic design is continued with the cut outs around the stone and with the grooves carved into the shoulders of the band. I love rings like this that have a big presence on the hand while at the same time being quite low profile.
