A very lovely antique opal pendant in sterling silver and gilt (that's the antique way of saying gold over silver). The natural opal is quite large at approximately 2 carats, and color-wise is a watercolor dreamscape, full of pastel colors with flashes of red and orange among the milky blues and greens. The halo surrounding the opal is comprised of 16 clear, sparkly round pastes. Paste is another antique word for a man made glass that originated in Europe in the 1700s. Paste was highly regarded during its time, it was incredibly popular as it was carefully crafted and designed to replicate genuine gemstones. These little round sparklers mimic diamonds and are truly bright and sparkly. A classic shape with a dreamy vibe that feels a bit like sun sparkling off of freshly fallen snow.
