This hefty, interesting and chunky piece was once two different pocket watch chains. One side of the necklace features a very decorative chain with the 4 balls, a mix of wheat & rope style chains and the fantastically carved decorative fob. This is called an "Albertina" chain. Albertina chains were worn mostly by women in the Victorian era, and were used to hold their pocket watches or worn decoratively as bracelets. The Albertina name is in reference to Prince Albert, Queen Victoria's husband who popularized the trend of having a cool and ornate watch chain.
The second half of this babe is a hefty, antique sterling trombone chain. These links are so cool and graphic, and highly sought after. I really like the look of these 2 together, one side is a bit more detailed and feminine, the other is heavier and more masculine- a perfect combo, IMO! You can wear the trombone links up front, or towards the back, or split the difference so both styles of chain are shown. There is enough room on some of the links to add charms or a T-Bar or a tassel - a really great piece that could get very personalized if you want to add more flair! Antique, unique, magnifique!
Total length of the chain is 17 inches, closes with a dog clip
Weighing in at a substantial 34 grams
Very good antique condition - one trombone link is missing its smaller, interior link so it looks like a simple, elongated oval. This is really not very noticeable, and does not take away from the overall look of the piece.
